Steven An, I live in Nanjing City.

The whole of China

How long have you been a bird guide?

15 years

How did you get into bird guiding?

I used to live in Nanchang near Poyang Lake, a famous wintering place for Siberian Cranes. Many birders go there in winter. I started as a local bird guide there but after many years of guiding I cover all of China now.

What are the aspects of being a bird guide that you like best? Which aspects do you dislike most?

I have the chance to go in the wild every day.   I do not like too crazy birding tours.

What are the top 5-10 birds in your region that you think are the most interesting for visiting birders?

Cabot’ Tragopan, Spoon-billed Sandpiper, Siberian Crane, Pied Falconet, Blue-crowned Laughingthrush

Can you outline at least one typical birdwatching trip in your area? Please briefly describe the locations, the key birds, and the approximate duration of such a trip

Poyang Lake winter birding, the location is in the north of Jiangxi province, key species include Siberian Crane, White-naped Crane, Hooded Crane, Swan Goose, Oriental Stork, and Baer’s Pochard.

What other suggestions can you give to birders interested in your area?

Bring warm clothes for winter, gloves, hiking shoes, and a telescope.
